Why Homeowners Call Us Back

What You Get That You Won’t Get From a Storm-Chasing Crew

Most of our work comes from repeat customers and their neighbors. These are the reasons they give when we ask.

The owner walks every estimate

Ryan Norris looks at your tree himself — not a commissioned salesperson working from a price sheet. The person telling you whether it stays or goes is the same one who has to rig it out if it goes.

We tell you when the tree can stay

Plenty of hazard calls end with a crown reduction, a cable, or a note to look again next year. Removal is permanent and the most expensive option on the menu. If it is not the right call, we say so.

Actually local, not storm-chasing

The shop is on Mt Pleasant Road in Kelso. After a windstorm, Cowlitz County fills up with out-of-area crews. We are the ones still here in March.

Rigging, not dropping

Almost nothing we remove has room to fall. Limbs come down on ropes under friction control, and lawns and beds get protected before anyone leaves the ground.

Honest about what it costs

You get the price in writing with the scope spelled out — what is included, what happens to the wood, whether a permit applies. No verbal ballparks that grow once the saws start.

Cleanup is part of the job

Brush chipped, wood cut to length, site raked. Want the rounds stacked for firewood or the chips left for your beds? Say so. Want it all gone? It all goes.

What the Work Actually Looks Like

Rigging, cleanup and view work on real Cowlitz and Clark County properties.

Locally Owned & Operated

A Kelso Crew, Not a Call Center

Columbia Tree Professionals is Ryan Norris’s company. He climbs, he runs the rigging, and he walks every estimate himself — which is why customers keep writing about him by name instead of about a brand.

The work is what you would expect from someone who lives here: hazard trees leaning over houses on the Kelso hillsides, view corridors closing in above the Columbia, Leyland cypress hedges that outgrew the yard twenty years ago, and the phone ringing the morning after a south wind comes up the river. One customer was an insurance adjuster who could not find anyone to help an elderly claimant — he called, and the crew was on site within a couple of hours.

We approach every job with honesty and professionalism, and we are transparent about the wellbeing of your trees and what you can expect to pay. If a tree can be saved, we will tell you how. If it cannot, we will show you why.

“Friendly, safe, reliable, and professional” shows up over and over, along with the thing customers seem most surprised by: the yard looks like nobody was ever there.

I'm a claims adjuster for a large insurance carrier. When I received a claim where a tree fell on an elderly customer's roof, and he was unable to find a contractor on his own, I had to do a search for him. I called Ryan and explained the situation and he was out there within a couple of hours removing the tree debris and even taking photos of the damaged structures for my assessment. I cannot express how great it was working with him and how big of a help he was. He also sent the invoice to me directly and his billing was very reasonable for the amount of work. 100% know who to call if this situation arises again. Thanks Ryan!

I first reached out to Ryan nearly 10 years ago to have some trees removed off my property. He was very knowledgeable about all the trees and the details of how they grow and what things to consider when having them removed. Not only was his knowledge of trees and removing them extensive, overall he was very SAFE about doing it! His team was able to rope down each limb very carefully so that none of my flowers or grass was damaged. Friendly, safe, reliable, and professional. They even raked and cleaned up so that no debris or mess was left in my yard. I have used him for ALL of my tree cutting and trimming needs ever since. Good pricing and a true master of the craft. I would highly recommend.

Fantastic local business! Ryan is quick, professional and very easy to work with. Would definitely use again. We now have views of the river and Lewis and Clark bridge right out our back door. 10/10 recommend!

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call

I read the reviews, and they were excellent - I decided to give them a call, since I had some damage as a result of some recent (heavy) snow activity here in Kalama. Ryan was able to get here the very next day for an estimate - the quickest he could since there were quite a few others who also had issues as a result of this freak weather event!! He listened to my concerns and had a pretty good idea how to take care of the entire tree. I decided to have him trim another tree as well and that wasn’t a problem either. His estimate was quite fair and he said he could be here the next day to take care of both. Bryce and Zack showed up and got started, later Ryan came and worked the problem tree, and together they finished everything within a couple more hours. I am so satisfied with their efforts and pleased with myself that I decided to give them a call. There is a reason they get so many 5 star reviews and they just got one from me.

Common Questions

Questions We Get Asked Every Week

If yours is not here, call and ask. We would rather answer it than have you guess.

  • Yes to both. Ryan walks the property himself, looks at the tree, the root collar and what is underneath it, and talks through the options out loud before anything goes in writing. There is no charge and no obligation. Photos over the phone are useful for triage, but they never show us where the truck parks or how the ground slopes — which is most of what determines the price.
