Tree Service in Shoreline, WA
Shoreline filled in almost all at once after the war, so its houses and its trees are the same age and both are now well past the size anyone planned for. What pulls us north from Kelso is redevelopment work: lots being cleared for something denser, where every tree on the parcel has to be resolved before an excavator turns up.

Shoreline is nine miles north of downtown Seattle and close to three hours north of our shop in Kelso. The second number is the one that decides things. We are not a realistic call for a limb hanging over a Ridgecrest carport, and the map is not going to argue us into being one.
The work that carries the drive is planned and sizeable: stripping a redevelopment parcel, taking a whole stand out in one mobilization, or running a list of properties for a single owner.
One Wave of Houses Means One Wave of Trees
Between the late forties and the early sixties, the ground between 145th and 205th filled with ramblers and split-levels on flat, generous lots. Whoever landscaped them planted at the same time from the same list: Douglas fir down the property lines, a bigleaf maple in the back, birch and flowering cherry out front, and cedar hedges along everything else.
Seventy years later, failures here arrive in clusters instead of one at a time. Birch declines and dies out block by block. The cherries hollow at the base. The firs that went in twelve feet apart as a screen have grown into one another, so pulling one out changes the wind exposure on the rest of the row. Those cannot honestly be priced as separate jobs, which is why we look at a whole property line when an owner asks about a single tree.
Leave the Bluff Above Richmond Beach Alone
The western edge of the city drops to Puget Sound in a steep bluff, and the ground there behaves nothing like the flat interior. Water works down through porous glacial outwash, meets a dense clay layer that will not pass it, and comes out sideways as seeps partway down the face. That is the mechanism behind most movement on this stretch of shoreline, and the alder, maple and madrona rooted into the slope are doing real structural work.
So on a bluff-edge property, in Innis Arden or anywhere along Richmond Beach, the honest recommendation is rarely to take them out. It is selective: remove the genuinely failing stems, reduce weight where a tree is levering on the crest, and leave the root network intact. Anyone offering to clear a bluff for a view is selling you a problem you get to pay for twice.
Covenants and City Rules Are Two Separate Approvals
Parts of Shoreline sit under community associations with their own view and vegetation covenants, and the city has its own requirements for removal, replacement and work near steep slopes. They are separate approvals, both can attach to the same tree, and both get revised. Verify with the City of Shoreline and with your association for your parcel before scheduling with anyone, us included.
How a Redevelopment Clearing Job Actually Runs
- We walk the parcel against the site plan: what stays, what goes, and where a machine can physically get in.
- Anything needing city approval or an association sign-off is identified before a saw comes out, so nothing stalls the permit later.
- Removals happen in one mobilization, most exposed and most awkward first, with wood and brush processed on site.
- Stumps come out to the depth the next trade needs, not to the depth that merely looks tidy.
- You get the site ready for the excavator and a written record of what was removed.
That sequence is why distance stops mattering on a job this size. One crew, one setup, one schedule.
