Tree Service in Milton, WA

Milton is a small city sitting astride the Pierce and King county line, grown up along the old interurban rail corridor between Tacoma and Federal Way. We are a Kelso outfit about a hundred miles south, so what brings us up here is the size of a job, never how close we are to it.

There are tree companies within fifteen minutes of Milton in every direction — Fife, Edgewood, Federal Way, Puyallup. We are not one of them. Our shop is on Mt Pleasant Road in Kelso, about a hundred miles south, and that number decides which jobs up here we should be quoting and which ones we should be handing straight back to somebody closer.

What earns the drive is scope. A back stand coming out in one go, a fence line or easement cleared end to end, a crane parked in the street lifting firs out of a yard with no drop zone — work like that runs days instead of hours, and the mileage folds into the job rather than sitting on top of your invoice. One limb over a carport does not.

The County Line Runs Straight Through Town, and So Does the Rulebook

Milton is unusual among small Washington cities in that the city itself sits across the Pierce and King boundary, with unincorporated county ground and two other cities pushed up against its edges. Parcels a few streets apart can answer to different requirements, and a stream or wetland buffer layers more on top of that. Those requirements differ by jurisdiction and they get revised, so we check what covers your specific address during the estimate and tell you what to confirm before any date is set — ours included.

The Interurban Corridor Is One Long Wind-Exposed Edge

The town grew along the old interurban rail line, and that right-of-way is still a continuous strip through it: trail, utility easement and volunteer growth in one narrow band. Decades of unmanaged alder and cottonwood lean out of it over back fences. Because the strip is linear and open on both flanks, every stem in it stands on an edge and carries wind that no interior tree ever feels — which is why the failures along it come in runs rather than one at a time. Who owns a given tree there is a separate question, and worth settling before a saw comes out.

The other Milton pattern is water. Around Surprise Lake and through the low ground the water table sits high most of the year, and that ground grows cottonwood, alder and willow rather than fir. Those fail on a different calendar — not in a February southerly but on a still July afternoon, when a heavy limb lets go for no visible reason. Cottonwood over a driveway or a play area is worth looking at before summer, not after.

What Pencils Out for Us This Far North

  • Whole-lot removals, where a retained fir screen or a back stand comes out in one go
  • Corridor, fence-line and easement clearing, blackberry and volunteer alder included
  • Crane picks where a landlocked back yard leaves the tree nowhere to go
  • Scheduled contract work for builders, property managers and commercial sites
  • Written risk assessments for an owner who needs a document rather than a bid

For work that does justify the trip, Ryan drives up and walks the property before a number goes on paper. No photo shows where a crane can set its outriggers or how wide the alley behind the house really is. If the drive does not add up for what you need, you hear that on the first call rather than after the estimate. We are licensed and insured, and the certificate comes to you without you having to ask twice.

Milton Tree Service Questions

  • Only for scope. Multi-tree removals, corridor and lot clearing, crane picks and contracted commercial work are worth loading equipment and moving a crew north for several days. Nothing smaller is. We keep nothing staged anywhere in Pierce County, and pretending otherwise would only cost you time. Describe the job on the phone and we will tell you straight whether it is one of ours.

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
