Tree Service in Enumclaw, WA

Enumclaw does not look like the rest of King County and it does not grow trees like the rest of King County. The plateau is a mudflow plain that came down off Mount Rainier and settled flat, and what went onto it afterward was pasture, hay and dairy — so the trees here stand in rows, in field corners and over farmyards, not in forest.

We are based in Kelso, roughly two and a half hours southwest of the plateau by way of I-5 and the highways in through Auburn or Buckley. On a single tree that drive is most of what you would be paying for. On a failing windbreak of forty poplars, it is a rounding error. That difference is the whole reason this page exists.

Open-Grown Trees Fail Differently

A Douglas fir that came up alone in a pasture is a different animal from one that came up in a stand. It has taper, it has a deep low crown, and it has spent its entire life taking wind from every direction, so it is rarely the tree that tips. What it does instead is throw limbs — long, heavy laterals that have been extending over a barn roof or a fence line for decades, hinging on unions the tree grew back when nothing was underneath them.

Then add the wear that only happens on working ground. Cattle stand in the shade and pack the root zone into hardpan, rub the bark off at chest height, and equipment clips the same trunk in the same place every haying season. None of that reads in the crown until the year it suddenly does.

  • Poplar windbreak rows planted a generation ago, now dropping tops and whole leaders
  • Farmyard firs and cedars that were shade trees when the barn was new and now sit over its roof
  • Wet field corners taken over by red alder, which is short-lived and starts failing at the butt
  • Fence lines swallowed by blackberry, hawthorn and volunteer cottonwood
  • Old yard and orchard maples with decayed leaders hanging directly over the drive

The East Wind Is Not a Rumor

Anyone who has spent a winter up here knows the east wind — the downslope blow that comes out of the Cascade gaps and works over the foothill towns while Seattle sits calm. Trees on the plateau are shaped by it. You can read the direction in the lean, in the one-sided crowns, and in which face of the trunk carries the old scars and the dead tops.

It also means a tree that looks balanced from your kitchen window may be holding its entire load in one plane. We want to see it from several angles and from underneath before saying anything useful about it, which is another reason we do not price trees off photos.

City Lot or County Acreage Decides What You Can Cut

Inside Enumclaw city limits you deal with the city. Step past that line and you are in unincorporated King County, where critical areas and larger clearing projects bring in a different set of requirements, and parcels in agricultural or forest classification can add another layer again. Which one you fall under, and what it costs you in lead time, depends on the parcel — and these rules move. Get that settled before anyone prices the work, us included.

Nothing gets a number until Ryan has walked the property, and on a place with fifty trees on it that walk takes a while. That is fine. It is how you end up with a bid that does not move once the saws start.

Enumclaw Tree Service Questions

  • We come out for real work. Multi-tree removals, windbreak rows, pasture and fence-line clearing, and contracted work on farms and commercial ground are all worth the drive from Kelso. One tree in a town lot is not, and you will hear that on the phone rather than after somebody has burned an afternoon on an estimate.

Fantastic local business! Ryan is quick, professional and very easy to work with. Would definitely use again. We now have views of the river and Lewis and Clark bridge right out our back door. 10/10 recommend!

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
