Tree Service in Venersborg, WA

Out past the Venersborg Schoolhouse the driveways get long, the gravel gets soft in March, and the second-growth fir comes right up to the porch. Working here is closer to timber falling than to yard work, and we plan it that way.

The Swedish families who settled this stretch of northeast Clark County named it after a town back home, cleared what they could farm, and let the rest grow. What grew back is what you live in now: dense second-growth Douglas fir and hemlock with an understory of vine maple, salal and blackberry, and houses tucked into pockets someone cut out of it. Beautiful place. It also means the nearest hundred-foot tree is often thirty feet from a bedroom wall.

Fuel Reduction and Defensible Space on Venersborg Acreage

This is wildland-urban interface ground in the plainest sense — homes inside continuous forest fuel, on private wells, at the end of roads that a fire engine may not want to back down. By late August the understory here is dry, and the thing that carries fire from the ground into the crowns is the ladder: dead lower limbs, ivy climbing a trunk, a slash pile nobody got to, brush grown up under a fir.

A fuel-reduction pass is not clearcutting your woods. Most owners want the forest, and we want them to keep it. The work is about breaking continuity — separating crowns near the house, taking the fuel off the ground, and putting real space between the structure and the tree line without stripping the property of everything that made it worth buying.

What a fuel-reduction pass actually includes

  • Limbing conifers up so no live branch bridges the ground to the crown
  • Cutting and chipping brush, blackberry and vine maple in the zone closest to the house
  • Pulling ivy and dead material off trunks and out of the interior canopy
  • Thinning crowded stems so crowns near the structure are not touching
  • Removing dead, leaning or root-rotted trees that could fall across the driveway
  • Chipping on site and blowing chips back into the woods instead of hauling brush miles out

Getting a Chip Truck Down a Venersborg Gravel Driveway

Access decides more about a Venersborg job than the tree does. A loaded chip truck is heavy, and a wet gravel grade with a soft shoulder and a culvert crossing halfway down is exactly where it does not belong. We walk the driveway before we schedule anything — the pitch, the turnaround at the top, the low branches over the lane, whether there is anywhere to swing a trailer without putting a wheel in the ditch. Sometimes that means we chip at the tree and haul nothing. Sometimes it means we come in dry weather. It always means we do not tear up your road.

The upside of acreage is the flip side of the same coin. On plenty of these properties there is genuine room to fall a tree whole, in one piece, into open ground — no climbing, no rigging, no crane. That is the fastest and cheapest way a big fir ever comes down, and when the lay is there we use it. Notch, back cut, wedges, escape route cleared, and the log ends up where we said it would.

The trees that cannot be felled are the ones leaning over the house, the shop, the pasture fence or the well head. Those get climbed and taken apart piece by piece, or roped down in controlled sections. Ryan is a hands-on climber, so the person quoting the job is the person going up the tree — which tends to keep the estimate honest in both directions.

Small Farms, Fence Lines and Reputation on Venersborg Road

Beyond the timber, a lot of what we do out here is farm-adjacent: clearing alder and blackberry off a fence line so the wire can be repaired, opening a pasture edge that has crept in fifteen feet over twenty years, dropping snags away from livestock, taking a windthrown cottonwood off a hay field before haying season. Practical work, priced practically.

And there is no hiding out here. If we leave ruts in a pasture, rounds where they are in the way, or a gate open with horses on the other side, the whole road hears about it by the weekend. So we close gates, we cut firewood rounds to the length you ask for and stack them where you want them, and we rake the site before we pull out. Licensed and insured, free on-site estimates, and the same phone number answered by the same person every time.

Venersborg Tree Service Questions

  • That is the normal request out here, and it is the right one. We work outward from the structure, breaking up the ladder fuels and separating crowns closest to the house, then taper off as you get farther out. You keep the forest and the privacy. We walk the ground with you first and mark what comes out so there are no surprises.

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
