Tree Service in Colville, WA

Colville is a working timber valley where most people already handle their own trees, and handle them fine. That is exactly why the only jobs worth calling a Kelso company about are the ones that stopped being a saw-and-a-Saturday proposition.

Most of the tree work in Stevens County gets done by the people who own the trees, with a saw off the back of a pickup, and that is usually the right call. We are not going to talk anybody out of it.

Our shop is in Kelso, the better part of seven hours from here — I-90 most of the way, then another hour north on 395. That number rules out almost everything a tree service normally sells, and we would rather say it at the top of the page than at the bottom of an estimate.

Stevens County Already Owns a Chainsaw

Firewood gets cut, small stuff gets dropped, and the outfits around Colville, Chewelah and Kettle Falls cover ordinary removals at prices we could not touch with seven hours of windshield time folded in. Call them first. The point where a job stops being a landowner job looks like one of these:

  • A tall Douglas fir with no lay, a shop under it, and a lean that already picked the direction
  • A pocket of dead conifers that has to come out together, not one a year
  • Anything that gets dismantled from the top instead of felled from the ground
  • Acreage going to bare ground for pasture, a building site or an access road
  • A written assessment an insurer, a lender or a buyer has to read

Root Disease Is Why the Big Ones Come Down Here

Northeast Washington has a root rot problem most homeowners never see coming. Armillaria and laminated root rot work through Douglas fir and grand fir in these hills, taking the anchoring roots while the crown still looks green enough to argue about. The tree fails at the base, on an ordinary afternoon, without the storm people expect to blame.

The tell is a group rather than one tree — a pocket where crowns thin and tops die back, spreading wider every few years. Fine white sheets of fungus under the bark at the root collar are the other sign.

Yard Trees Up Here Fail for Different Reasons

Close to the houses it is not the forest species causing trouble. Paper birch was planted across this part of the state and is under steady pressure from bronze birch borer, dying from the top down in the dry summers when nobody wants to water it. Aspen suckers into everything it reaches and rots young. Black cottonwood along the river bottom gets enormous and sheds limbs the size of an ordinary tree.

None of that is exotic, but it does mean the tree that worries you and the one actually going to fail are often not the same tree.

How We Schedule a Trip This Far Out

It starts with a call where we ask what is on the ground and say plainly whether an estimate is worth setting up. If it is, Ryan walks the property in person — we do not price a seven-hour job off pictures. You get a written scope, a firm date, and travel shown as its own line. Then one trip, one crew, and the list finished before we head back west.

Lead time runs longer than you would get locally, because trips this direction get batched. Clearing rules also differ between the City of Colville, Stevens County, and whatever shoreline or forest practices requirement attaches to your parcel, and all of those change. Confirm what applies before anyone starts cutting.

If you can handle it with your own saw, handle it with your own saw. We will say that on the phone and lose the call, because it is true more often than not up here. What is worth a real conversation is the tree with no lay and a house under it, or the parcel that has to go to bare ground before anything gets built on it.

Colville Tree Service Questions

  • For scope, yes. Stand removals, land clearing, crane work and multi-day hazard jobs are all things we will travel for, because at that size the drive is a small line on the bid. For a single tree or routine pruning it is most of the cost, and a Colville-area outfit will do it faster and cheaper. We sort that out on the first call, not after an estimate.

Fantastic local business! Ryan is quick, professional and very easy to work with. Would definitely use again. We now have views of the river and Lewis and Clark bridge right out our back door. 10/10 recommend!

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
