Tree Service in Leavenworth, WA
Leavenworth properties sit inside the stand rather than beside it, which is agreeable right up until a grand fir dies twenty feet off a roofline. Everything we would take on here follows from that, and from the fact that we are five hours and a mountain pass away.

Leavenworth is a town built inside a working forest. The stand does not stop at the city limit or the property line — it stops at somebody’s deck, and often not even there. That one fact drives most of the tree work in this valley.
Our shop is in Kelso, five hours out with a pass in the way whichever route you pick. Small outfits work this valley year-round and will handle one removal properly long before we could. What gets us over the mountains is scope: a dozen dead conifers across a timbered acre, a lot going to bare ground before a foundation is poured, fuel work measured in days.
The Forest Comes Right Up to the Deck Rail
This is the seam where the wet west-side forest gives out and the dry country starts, and the mix shows it — Douglas fir and ponderosa on the open south faces, grand fir and western larch in the draws, cottonwood and water birch along the Wenatchee River and Icicle Creek. Houses up Icicle Road, Ski Hill, Mountain Home and the Chumstick were dropped into that stand rather than cleared out of it.
Grand fir is the species that costs owners the most money here. It holds dead lower limbs, decays from the butt while looking respectable from the driveway, and in a crowded stand grows tall and slim with almost no taper. Douglas-fir beetle and fir engraver take the trees already short on water, and a beetle-killed fir does not wait for a calm day to come apart.
Snow Load Does the Damage Wind Gets Blamed For
This valley takes a real winter. Wet snow loads crowns that never had room to build a tapered stem, snapping tops out of grand fir and lodgepole and splitting codominant unions. Broken pieces hung up after a March thaw come down whenever they decide to, usually into the one thing on the lot you cared about.
Snow also sets the calendar. Between road conditions and soft ground, much of what we would do on a timbered lot up the Chumstick or above Icicle Creek only happens inside a window, and that window is not December. Booking a season ahead is normal here.
A Lot of These Owners Live Somewhere Else
A good share of the ground around Leavenworth belongs to people who are not standing on it — cabins, second homes and short-term rentals run from the west side. That changes what an owner needs from a tree company: photos before and after, a written scope a manager can read without being there, and the whole list finished in one visit instead of three.
It is one of the few situations where being from out of the area is not a handicap. We are making the trip anyway, so we would rather take the whole property at once.
What Justifies the Drive Over the Pass
- Dead and beetle-killed conifers coming out across a timbered parcel at once
- Defensible space and ladder-fuel work on lots that back onto national forest
- Site clearing ahead of a build, with slash hauled off rather than piled at the line
- Crane-assisted removals on steep canyon lots with nowhere to drop anything
- Contracted work for lodges, rental managers and commercial property around town
Removal and clearing rules differ between the City of Leavenworth, Chelan County, and whatever critical-area or subdivision condition attaches to your parcel, and they get revised. We confirm what applies before quoting.
