Tree Service in Medical Lake, WA
A great deal of the tree work around Medical Lake still traces back to fire, and much of it is standing there yet. We are a Kelso company on the wet side of the Cascades, so what brings us across is scope — the kind of job measured in days on the ground rather than hours.

Kelso to Medical Lake is roughly three hundred and fifty miles and the better part of six hours, all of it on the far side of a mountain range from you. We put that first because it decides everything else on this page. We are not the outfit to call when a branch drops across your driveway on a Sunday.
What does bring us over is the work fire left behind, and there is still a lot of it upright.
The Gray Fire Is Still Producing Removals
When the Gray Fire came through in August of 2023 it did what fires on the West Plains do: moved fast through grass and light fuel, then got into the pine. Plenty of ponderosa around town and out toward Silver Lake did not burn to the ground. They scorched, held their needles through a season, and then quit. Those are the trees people are living under now.
Fire-killed pine does not come down on a convenient schedule. The top dies first and begins shedding, the cambium goes, and somewhere in the second or third year the roots have rotted enough that the whole stem lets go in a wind. The wood gets harder to work the longer it stands — dry, checked, and unpredictable once you put a rope in it. A scorched tree that will genuinely recover is worth keeping. One that will not should come out before it becomes a demolition problem on top of a rebuilt house. Telling those apart is what a site visit is for.
Shoreline Ground and Rock Bench Are Two Different Jobs
Medical Lake, West Medical Lake, Silver Lake and Clear Lake all sit in kettles and scabland channels, so a single street can run from soft lakeside soil onto bare basalt inside a couple hundred feet. Down by the water you get aspen, water birch and black cottonwood in ground that stays wet, and cottonwood fails at the union and drops large wood with very little warning. Up on the bench you get pine standing in almost no soil at all. Same neighborhood, two entirely different rigging problems, and lake lots usually add a steep bank with nowhere to park a truck.
The Big Campuses in Town
Medical Lake carries two large state institutional properties, Eastern State Hospital and Lakeland Village, with Fairchild Air Force Base just up the road. Grounds like those were planted decades ago at a scale no residential lot matches, and the tree work they generate is contract work: hazard removals across a whole campus, clearing along fence and access routes, documentation of what is left. That is the shape of job where our travel stops being the deciding factor.
What Makes the Drive Worth It
- Standing fire-killed pine taken out in groups rather than one at a time
- Defensible space and fuel reduction around a house, outbuildings and access lanes
- Lot clearing on parcels being rebuilt, replatted or brought back into use
- Written risk assessments when an insurer, a lender or a county file needs something on paper
- Contracted work for institutional, commercial and multi-parcel owners
Nothing here gets quoted off a photograph. At this distance the estimate is a scheduled visit, and if what you describe on the phone does not justify it, you will hear that during the call rather than after we have both given up a morning.
