Tree Service in Omak, WA
A lot of the tree work still waiting around Omak was started by a fire that nobody has finished cleaning up after. Dead standing pine and fir is slow, patient, dangerous work, and it is one of the few jobs out here that genuinely justifies moving a crew across the state.

Standing dead timber does not come down the year it dies. It dries, loses its bark and its fine branches, and then somewhere between the second winter and the eighth it goes over — usually in wind, usually without warning, and usually across whatever is underneath. There is a great deal of that ground around Omak.
We are based in Kelso, on the west side, and moving a crew and machines here takes most of a day. That distance is the whole reason this page is narrow. Fallers who live in this valley have cut burned timber their entire working lives, and if you need one tree dealt with, or need anybody at all this week, they are who you should be calling.
A Snag Is Not Just a Dead Tree
A green tree tells you things. It flexes, the hinge behaves, the top is where you expect it. A stem dead four years does none of that. The top may already be broken and hung up out of sight, the sapwood may be punky enough that a hinge will not hold, and bark and limbs come down on the crew before the tree does. That is why the work goes by the day with a plan for each stem, and why the lowest bid is a poor way to pick who does it.
Volume is also what makes it work for both of us. Thirty dead stems on the slope above your place is a real job with a beginning and an end, and at that size the drive from Kelso stops being the main line on the invoice.
The Forest Edge Sits Right Against the Yards
Omak climbs out of the river valley toward dry pine on the slopes and up the drainages behind town. Above the last row of fences it goes to bunchgrass, bitterbrush and pine carrying ladder fuel from the ground into the crowns. Reducing that is unglamorous: limbing conifers well up off the ground, breaking apart continuous canopy, pulling juniper and arborvitae back from siding, and hauling all of it off the property instead of stacking it at the fence line where it waits to become the next fire.
How a Hillside Job Actually Runs
- We walk the ground with you and mark what comes out, what stays, and what will not be touched without a machine under it.
- Access gets settled first: where the truck sits, where the chipper sits, and how material comes off a slope without tearing up the ground.
- Dead stems come down in a planned order, so nothing is dropped into standing hazard or left hung up in what remains.
- Material is chipped, hauled, or cut and stacked where you want it, agreed at the walk-through rather than improvised at the end.
- We leave the ground raked and a written summary of what came out, which is what an insurer or an agency asks for later.
Several Sets of Rules Meet in This Valley
Ownership changes quickly around here. City, county, private timberland, state ground and the Colville Reservation across the river all sit close together, and what is permitted on one is not automatically permitted on the next. Irrigation easements and post-fire program conditions add more to check. We confirm who has jurisdiction over a parcel before quoting it, and you should expect that of any contractor.
