Tree Service in Shelton, WA
Shelton is the only incorporated town in Mason County and it still works for a living — a mill town stacked up a hillside at the head of Oakland Bay, with shellfish ground below the banks and planted fir running right to the back fences. Both of those facts change how a tree comes down here.

Ask what makes a Shelton removal different from the same tree in Longview and the answer is almost always what sits underneath it. In town that is a narrow hillside street with an alley behind it. Out along the water it is a tideflat that somebody farms for a living.
Oakland Bay Is a Working Shellfish Bay, and It Is Downhill From Your Trees
The banks along Oakland Bay and Hammersley Inlet drop into commercial shellfish ground, which settles several questions before a saw starts. Brush, sawdust, a slug of hydraulic oil or a bucket of loosened soil sliding off a bank are not cosmetic problems here — they land on a crop, in water that gets tested. Where the machine sits and how debris leaves the property get decided at the estimate, not on the day.
It also means we rig where somewhere else we would fell. Dropping a fir toward the water is easy right up until half a canopy is out on the flats at low tide and somebody has to go and fetch it back.
Abandoned Christmas Tree Rows Are Half the Clearing Work Out Here
Plenty of parcels here came with rows in them: fir planted on tight spacing, sheared a few seasons, then left when the market or the owner moved on. Thirty years later it is a wall of stems with no taper, no live limb below head height, and roots that never had room to spread.
You cannot thin that the way you would thin a natural stand. Pull one in three and the survivors, which have never carried wind on their own, go over in the first hard southerly. It comes out in blocks with the finished edge chosen on purpose, or it stays as it is.
Uphill of Downtown the Lots Are Small and the Trees Are Not
The older streets above Railroad Avenue — Angleside, Hillcrest, Mountain View — were platted for mill housing. Small lots, alleys behind them, services strung across back yards. The firs and maples planted around those houses now stand over three roofs at once, above a drop zone that does not exist.
So the tree comes down in pieces on rope, or a crane sits in the street and lifts it out over the roofline. The ground is glacial outwash — sand and gravel under a skin of soil — so a tracked machine marks a lawn less here than on river silt. The harder question is whether the alley is wide enough to get one in.
Two Hours Is Fine for Planned Work and Useless in a Storm
We are based in Kelso, a solid two hours south, and there is nothing behind that sentence up here — no second yard, nobody staged in Mason County. Work here gets grouped into planned days so the drive is shared across several jobs rather than landing on one homeowner, which is why scheduling runs longer than at home.
The flip side is worth saying out loud. If a fir is through your roof at eleven at night, call a Shelton outfit, and call the utility first if a line is in it. We would rather lose that call than have you waiting on headlights coming north on I-5. Book us for what goes on a calendar — a stand coming out, a bank cleared, a crane pick over a house. License and insurance go out with the estimate.
