Tree Service in Snohomish, WA

The trees that worry people in Snohomish are usually older than the houses beneath them — horse chestnut, walnut and Norway maple planted on the avenues when the town was still being laid out. We come north from Kelso for the version of that job that takes days rather than an hour.

Our shop is on Mt Pleasant Road in Kelso, about three hours south of here before Seattle traffic gets a vote in it. There is no truck of ours parked in Snohomish County, no yard, and nobody on call north of Cowlitz County. That is the starting point for anything else on this page.

What survives that distance is scope. A crane pick between two houses with no side yard, a full property of mature trees handled as one plan, a written assessment an owner or an association can actually hand to somebody — that work runs for days and gets priced on difficulty. Everything smaller belongs to a company in town, and Snohomish County has good ones.

A Whole Generation of Trees Planted in the Same Decade

What separates this town from the subdivisions around it is that its trees were put in deliberately, by people building a town, and most of them went in within a few decades of each other. Walk the avenues above First Street and you find horse chestnut, black walnut, English walnut, Norway maple and the occasional surviving elm — species almost nobody plants in a Washington yard now — standing over houses of roughly the same age.

Trees planted together age out together, and this stock rarely fails the way a forest tree does. What we find is decay working down from old flush cuts and topping wounds made for a utility line two owners ago, included bark in unions that formed while the tree was young and crowded, and long horizontal limbs over a roof that have been getting heavier for eighty years. A still afternoon in July is a perfectly ordinary time for one of those to let go.

Sometimes Keeping the Tree Is the Better Answer

We take wood down for a living, so read this for what it is: on an old ornamental with sound wood in the trunk and one bad union, hardware and an honest reduction often buy a long stretch of time, and they are usually the cheaper decision by a wide margin. They are also the only decision that leaves the street looking like the street.

The catch is that preservation is not a one-visit product. It means cables set where the geometry actually calls for them, weight taken off the leads that are loaded rather than the ones easy to reach, and someone looking at the tree again in a few years. If a whole property needs that at once, it is worth our drive. One cable on one limb is not, and you will hear that on the phone.

Find Out Who Reviews the Work Before You Book Anyone

Snohomish has a historic district, an address pattern that puts some neighbors inside the city and others in unincorporated county, and river frontage at the bottom of the hill. Any of the three can change what is allowed on a parcel, none of it matches between jurisdictions, and it gets revised. Trees in the planting strip are frequently not the homeowner’s to remove either.

Confirm what applies to your specific address with the City of Snohomish or Snohomish County before money changes hands with any contractor, us included. We check it before we quote, and if the answer is that a tree stays, that is the answer we give you.

What Actually Gets Us on the Freeway

  • Whole-property work on mature ornamentals, with reduction, cabling and removal planned together
  • Crane-assisted removals where an old house leaves no drop zone and the avenue is the only staging area
  • Multi-tree removals on acreage out toward Machias, Three Lakes and Cathcart
  • Written risk assessments for owners, estates and associations that need documentation rather than an opinion
  • Contracted and commercial work with enough days in it to absorb the travel

Ryan walks every one of those himself before a number gets written down, and the visit is free. If the job turns out smaller than it sounded, we say so and you keep the money in Snohomish County.

A single pruning visit prices by the mile from here, and you would be paying for our windshield time. A property where six or eight mature trees all need a decision at once prices by difficulty, and that is a job worth putting a crew on the road for.

Snohomish Tree Service Questions

  • On planned, larger jobs, yes: crane removals, whole properties of mature trees, multi-tree work on acreage and written risk assessments. We do not take single removals, routine pruning or anything urgent this far north, because we would be slower and dearer than a company in town and we are not going to pretend otherwise on the phone.

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
