Tree Service in Union Gap, WA
Union Gap carries the retail and the freight for the lower valley, packed into a few square miles where the Yakima River cuts through Ahtanum Ridge. Most of the tree trouble here is not in front yards — it is on parking lots, back lots and river bottom that belongs to somebody with a lease to protect.

Almost every tree in Union Gap that turns into a real problem is standing on commercial ground. The old town blocks have their share of yard trees, but the acreage here is retail frontage, warehouses, truck yards and the bottom land behind them, and that changes both the kind of work and who is paying for it.
So we should be clear about where we sit. Our shop is in Kelso, on the wet side of the state, four hours away by US 12 over the Cascades. There are tree companies in Yakima and the valley towns who can be at your property this week. For a limb over a driveway, use them. What we come out for is site-scale work.
Parking-Lot Trees Fail in Ways Yard Trees Do Not
Look at what is planted in the islands along the retail strip: honey locust, flowering pear, ash, a few maples, each in a cutout barely wider than the truck that delivered it. Roots that began circling in a nursery pot keep circling, then flatten against the curb and slowly strangle the stem. Above ground the canopy looks acceptable right up until it is not.
Flowering pear is the reliable offender. It grows a tight fork with bark trapped inside the union, then splits down the middle in a wind event or under an early wet snow while the leaves are still on. What is underneath is not lawn — it is customer parking, storefront glass and light poles, which turns a tree question into a liability question. Sites like these also do not get handled one tree at a time. A property manager wants the whole lot walked and dealt with in a single visit, and that is a scope we will travel for.
The Bottom Ground Behind the Frontage
Behind the buildings the ground drops into genuine river bottom, where the Yakima River and Ahtanum Creek come together. It grows black cottonwood, Russian olive, Siberian elm and blackberry into a thicket that pushes back into fence lines, storm drainage and the rear of properties nobody walks in a given year.
Cottonwood on that ground gets very large very fast, drops limbs in still weather, and hollows out while the top still looks healthy. Russian olive and elm resprout hard from a cut stump, so clearing that nobody follows up on is only a delay. Taking a rear boundary back properly means machines, several days and somewhere for the material to go — and that is exactly the shape of job where the drive stops being the deciding factor.
Who Actually Hires Us Out Here
Mostly property managers, general contractors, and owners of commercial and agricultural ground — people working from a scope and a schedule rather than a weekend list. The work gets planned weeks ahead, priced from a walk-through rather than photographs, and run with the crew staying on site until it is finished instead of being split across three properties.
Ryan drives out and looks at the property himself before anyone talks about price, and the travel appears as a line in the quote rather than hidden inside it. Jurisdiction is worth settling early too. City right-of-way trees, parcels outside the limits in unincorporated Yakima County, critical-area rules along Ahtanum Creek, and the fact that south of that creek you are into an entirely different jurisdiction all change who you have to ask. Those rules differ by agency and get revised, so verify for your address before you hire anyone.
