Tree Service in Gig Harbor, WA

Gig Harbor sits on a peninsula, and there is one practical way onto it with a chip truck and a chipper behind it. That single fact shapes how we price, schedule and staff every job we take across the water, and it is the reason we only take the big ones.

Start with the geography, because it decides everything else. Our shop is in Kelso. Gig Harbor is a little over two hours north — up I-5, west on SR 16, and across the Narrows. For most of what happens to a tree on a Tuesday afternoon, that makes us the wrong phone call, and a harbor-area company the right one.

What we cross the water for is planned work with weight behind it: a stand of firs coming down together, a shoreline view opened over several days, acreage cleared before a build, or a written assessment somebody needs before a sale closes.

Everything We Bring Crosses One Bridge

A crew working near home can forget a wedge and be back in twenty minutes. On the peninsula, forgetting something is most of an hour and a toll each way, and if the eastbound lanes stack up in the afternoon your job just lost a chunk of daylight. Disposal runs are long too — wood and chips off a large removal have nowhere close to go.

So we come over staged for the whole job and stay until it is done. That works on a multi-day removal and is absurd on a single limb. It is also why we ask more questions than you expect before agreeing to drive out and look at anything.

Waterfront Trees Are a View Problem and a Permit Problem at Once

On the high banks above Hale Passage, Colvos Passage, Wollochet Bay and Henderson Bay, the firs and maples have grown out over the drop because that is where the light is. Owners want the water back. The complication is that the same root systems are part of what is holding the bank together, so the honest answer is frequently a reduction and some windowing rather than the removal you had in mind.

The other complication is jurisdictional. Shoreline rules reach inland from the water, and vegetation work inside that zone commonly carries its own requirements, on top of whatever critical-area or steep-slope designation applies to the parcel. Those rules differ by jurisdiction and get revised. Verify with the City of Gig Harbor or Pierce County for your address before any contractor puts a saw in a tree.

Peninsula Acreage: Wells, Drainfields and Where the Weight Goes

Outside the city limits most of this ground is on a well and a septic system, and a drainfield will not carry a loaded chip truck or a crane outrigger. Neither will an old tank lid. Alder and maple roots find drainfield lines on their own schedule, which is its own reason people call. Before anything with wheels leaves the driveway, we want to know:

  • Where the tank, the lid and the drainfield actually sit, on paper if you have it
  • Whether the driveway has a turnaround or a crew backs a quarter mile out
  • Whether the trees fall inside a shoreline buffer or a critical area
  • Where the wood and chips end up, since every disposal run here is a long one
  • Who your power provider is, because much of the peninsula is on Peninsula Light rather than PSE

Every one of those still gets walked in person before a price exists. If the bank tells us the job is smaller than it sounded, we will say so and send you back across the bridge — cheaper for everyone than a wasted trip.

Gig Harbor Tree Service Questions

  • We cross for planned jobs big enough to justify it: multi-tree removals, shoreline view work spanning several days, acreage clearing, crane removals and written assessments. We turn down small and urgent peninsula work, and we do it on the first call rather than after an estimate. If that is what you have, a local harbor company is the better answer.

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
