Tree Service in Ocean Shores, WA

Ocean Shores was platted onto a sand spit in the 1960s and then grew itself a forest, almost all of it shore pine that was either planted or seeded in from what was. We are a Kelso company roughly three hours south, and that distance decides what we are actually useful for out here.

There are people on the Harbor who can be at your place this week, and for most of what a homeowner here needs you should hire one of them. We are three hours out by way of Montesano, with no yard on the peninsula and no truck that can turn up when the wind does.

What pencils out is volume. Clearing a buildable lot, dropping a group of dead and dying pines in one visit, or putting a written assessment in an owner’s hands are jobs where several days on site make the drive irrelevant. One pine over a deck never will be, and we would rather say so on the phone than after an estimate.

Sand, With the Water Table Right Underneath It

The peninsula is dune sand with fresh water close to the surface — close enough that the town has canals and lakes cut into it. Roots do not travel far downward through that; they run sideways in the top couple of feet and stop. So the failures here are almost always the whole tree, tipped with the root mass on edge like a dinner plate, and the crown gives little warning because the wood is usually sound. It is the ground that quits.

Salt handles the other half. Steady onshore wind burns the windward buds, so crowns flag inland and the seaward side stays thin and gray no matter how sound the rest of the tree is. That look talks people into removing trees that were fine and hides the ones that are genuinely finished.

An Even-Aged Pine Town Ages All at Once

Shore pine is a coastal specialist and not a long-lived one on this ground. A whole town of them established inside the same couple of decades, so they decline together too. Western gall rust shows as woody swellings on branches and stems, thickets on unbuilt lots have been self-thinning for years, and every stem pulled out of a dense group leaves its neighbors standing in wind they never grew up in. That is how one clearing project becomes three failures next door.

Clearing a Lot Here Is Not Clearing One Inland

A buildable lot choked with pine, salal and Scotch broom is a different animal from a fir stand in Cowlitz County. Stems are smaller and there are far more of them, the sand is kind to a grinder and unkind to traction, and the streets are narrow with utilities and neighbors close. The decision that matters is what stays. Strip a lot to bare sand and you have handed the wind an open lane to whatever is left and to the house you are about to build, so we would rather plan the windbreak than rebuild one later.

Rules apply out here too. Dune, wetland and shoreline conditions cover much of the peninsula, and the City of Ocean Shores keeps its own requirements, which differ from the county’s and change. Verify what applies to your parcel before anybody quotes a clearing job, us included.

For any of it, the first step is the same as at home: Ryan looks in person before anyone talks price. If the drive does not make sense for what you are describing, you will hear it on that first call rather than at the bottom of a quote.

What gets us out to the peninsula is scope — a wooded lot that has to be opened up before a house goes on it, or a stand of even-aged pine that is failing all at once. For one tree over a deck, call somebody on the Harbor. That is not modesty, it is arithmetic.

Ocean Shores Tree Service Questions

  • For planned, larger-scope work, yes. Lot clearing, multi-tree removals, contracted jobs and written assessments are all worth loading equipment and driving three hours for. A single removal or a trim is not, for you or for us — a Grays Harbor company will be quicker and cheaper, and we will point you that direction on the phone.

Ryan was so fantastic! We had a large pine branch fall on top of our house that was lodged into the roof. After calling a few other services who were not very helpful we got ahold of Columbia Tree Prof. He answered right away and was very kind and helpful! He knew exactly what to do to help us and he was able to remove the branch within the hour! We are so thankful for his help and his generosity! We have two trees on our property that will need to be removed and we will definitely be giving our business to this company! Local, Efficient, professional, knowledgeable, Skilled. Can’t go wrong!

Mr Norris removed a huge fir tree inches away from my house in one day just as he promised. If you have a hazardous tree requiring fancy rope work and want a professional this tree service is the right pick. Really funny guy, he became a good friend and his pricing beat everyone else by a lot. Do yourself a favor and give him a call
