Tree Service in Clark County, WA
Clark County is the other half of our home ground, and it is the harder half to generalize about. Downtown Vancouver street trees, Prune Hill view corridors and timbered acreage above Yacolt are three different trades wearing the same county name.

The thing that separates Clark County from the rest of our service area is regulation. Vancouver and Camas both run real tree codes, and a removal that would be nobody’s business in unincorporated Cowlitz County can require permission here. That is the first question we answer, before anyone talks about price.
The Gorge Decides the Weather on the East Side
Camas and Washougal sit at the west mouth of the Columbia River Gorge, and that single fact drives most of the failures out there. East wind funnels out of the Gorge and hits trees from a direction they did not grow to resist. In winter, cold continental air draining west under milder marine air produces silver thaw — freezing rain that loads a canopy with ice, followed by wind that pushes the loaded crown sideways.
Broadleaf evergreens, arborvitae and Leyland cypress screens, overextended bigleaf maple and anything previously topped are the first things to break under that load. It is a genuinely different failure pattern from the windthrow we see along the Columbia at Kalama, and it happens in events that leave Longview merely wet.
A Century of Housing Stock, All of It Growing Trees
Downtown Vancouver has craftsman blocks with street trees older than most of the county. Hazel Dell and Minnehaha are mid-century, with 1950s and 60s plantings now at full size over single-story roofs and overhead service drops. The east side — Cascade Park, Orchards, Sifton — went up in the seventies through nineties with fast-growing ornamentals and privacy hedges that outgrew their lots twenty years ago.
And then Ridgefield and Battle Ground, where former pasture has become subdivision at speed. Those developments leave isolated legacy firs standing in the middle of new streets — trees that grew up sheltered inside a stand and are now fully wind-exposed on every side. They are consistently the most dangerous trees in a new neighborhood.
The Northeast Corner Is a Different County Entirely
Out past Battle Ground toward Yacolt, Amboy and Chelatchie Prairie, the suburbs stop and the wildland-urban interface starts. Homes sit inside second-growth timber with Gifford Pinchot National Forest at the back fence in places. The Yacolt Burn named the state forest out there, and the 2022 Nakia Creek Fire put wildfire back in local conversation.
Defensible space work — limbing up ladder fuels, spacing crowns, thinning dense doghair stands uphill of a house — is as much of the job in that corner as removals are.
